I love the Utah State Fair that’s going on right now. Why? Let me tell you:
- Freshly made cotton candy, roasted corn and lemonade
- The dutch oven cookoff & tasting
- The booths with wacky things for sale and the salesmen and women who demo their products. It takes me back in time. Somehow they have products you’ve never heard of that you find yourself suddenly needing.
- The fun things to do with the kids from the shark exhibit to the Lego and Nintendo stations.
- The overpriced rides that make me appreciate Lagoon but that are still fun.
- The freak show things: the tiny woman who is smaller than a 2 year old child. The snake woman whose head is popping out from the center of a table. She is supposed to be beautiful but says she’s ancient and she looks it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I had a good laugh.
- The people watching – like the guy with a pot belly who decided to pull up his shirt half way to get some sun.
Despite it looking a bit low-budget you can burn through cash pretty fast at the fair. Bring extra or get charged a lot for the ATM fees (good luck finding one that works too!). I learned this after 20 mins. of searching for one that worked.
Did you know there are all sorts of cook offs at the fair that you can enter?
