Highway 89 Pedestrian Bridge Woes

by Janet Thaeler on September 12, 2009

This was posted on our Facebook Discussion Page. Since no one ever reads it or participates I thought I’d post it on the blog. It’s from my new friend Barbara. Please tell me she’s not the Barbara across the street or I’ll feel really stupid. Barbara, if you’re reading this we should become friends for real. I could use some guest posts like this. I’m still sort of new to the area and issues like this. Any help covering issues is always appreciated.

Here’s what Barbara wrote:

cups-on-bridgeLiving with the pedestrian bridge( that goes across highway 89) in our backyard we are constantly aware of the many nuisances that occur there. The first are the motorized bikes that ride across it, which is illegal, second are the many “cup” signs that are pushed into the chain link fencing which the city considers littering, and third, the children that play on the bridge and invite motorists below to honk their horns. The city is aware of these happenings and said they are working on getting some signs posted to let people know these things are not a legal use of this bridge. I would love some support in getting the word out to curtail these uses of the bridge.

The city put up the sign, pictured here…of course, the cup display indicates that it is not being read or possibly understood. The city considers the cups, “litter” as written on their signage, but I wonder how many people or kids will actually make the connection?
