I’m not a food snob but c’mon Farmington, Kaysville and Fruit Heights! We have chain stores but we don’t even have the best chains. No Del Taco. I pine for a Zupas. We do have the most outlandish Taco Time probably in the entire world though.
Forget Santa Claus — I feel like it was truly Christmas this year when I read in the newspaper that Harmon’s grocery store is coming to town. Nothing against Smith’s and their olive bar, but Harmon’s is where it’s at. It will be a big store and it will be here next year (early 2011). I love the salad bar. I love the bakery and the takeout counter. It’s not full of fried potato logs, chicken or dried out salads. They don’t bake squishy white bread. Plus they’ll slice the bread any thickness you want.
Thank you. Thank you. I can’t wait.
On another note: looks like the rumor about Trader Joe’s coming to Utah is a rumor. Despite the Facebook Page and Jason Perry’s pleas, there isn’t one on their list of new stores opening. You’ll have to go to Hollywood or Oregon.
So for now, check out the gourmet but not as cheap Caputo’s and Liberty Heights Fresh
NOTE: I got this in the comments from who I assume is the owner or surely a family member of Caputo’s. He sold me on getting my cheese there. Plus I’m telling my friend Jyl who is a cheese devotee: Earlier this year, in a study verified by numerous local press outlets, our cheeses were shown to be 37% cheaper than common grocery stores (including Harmon’s). In fact on the cheeses we share in common with Harmon’s our prices were 40% less!!!
On a totally unrelated note, if anyone wanted to get me pj bottoms for my birthday next week, I found the perfect pair (the orange ones).

Hi Janet,
I am excited to hear you are getting a Harmon’s as it is a really good grocery store and something to be excited about. However, you mention that Caputo’s is more expensive. Earlier this year, in a study verified by numerous local press outlets, our cheeses were shown to be 37% cheaper than common grocery stores (including Harmon’s). In fact on the cheeses we share in common with Harmon’s our prices were 40% less!!!
I know this is really surprising, so feel free to contact me and I will explain further and tell you how this is possible.
Thanks,
Matt Caputo
Matt,
I love Caputos now – I’d never heard of you until you posted this comment. Now I go there whenever I get the chance. I just feel like I need a tour guide. It’s like visiting many countries. I get a bit overwhelmed by all there is to see and learn about. I need more time! But I LOVE love love the chocolate. I haven’t delved into the cheese section yet but I did eye the roasted artichoke hearts in the display case.
Best
Janet
