Last night there was a great Christmas party. The Adams and their helpers did an amazing job decorating and adding drama and flair (loved the snowflakes hanging from the ceiling – could you come add them to my house next??). It reminded me of my absolute favorite Christmas party.
We were asked to dress up in costumes from the time of Jesus. Robes, towels on our heads, etc. When we got to the church the gym had been transformed into a tent city. We were handed a bag of “coins” and went into the market place. We bought candles, bread and honey and other foods or gifts.
Then there were times when people acted out scenes from the life of Jesus. Men came through looking for him, asking if we had seen him. Women talked about being healed by him. Everyone was dressed up and had the lines memorized. It was magical.
Then we got our candles lit and started a walk to a neighboring home. We sang Christmas songs on the way. When we got there we noticed real animals and a manger. The angel Gabriel was floating in the air with a spotlight on him. He spoke to us telling us about the new baby being born. There was music playing.
Then the spotlight went to the manger where a husband and wife and new baby were sitting. Mary sang a song and they spoke about the new miracle. It was amazing. The family who planned it said they did this in California for the community. Sometimes people were so moved by the presentation that they felt like they were there. They sometimes wept or knelt down to bow to the King.
This is a beautiful time of year. Thank you for the work you put into making meaning for us. We love driving around and looking at the lights and decorations and love singing and hearing Christmas songs performed.
