Park City Ski Resort is doing a local special for kids or adults (beginners only) to learn to ski. This locals only package is $25, and includes a 3 hour lesson, ski or snowboard rental, and a lift ticket for the remaining hour. It is on Saturdays now until March from 1-4pm. Check it out at park city’s website under locals special. Once you go once, you can go up to four more times for the same price/same package. Children must be 6 years old to participate.
Also, Alta ski resort offers skiing free at the Sunnyside and Cecret lift every day beginning at 3pm. It closes at 4:30.
Here’s a bigger list of deals for first time skiers. Utah Nordic Alliance has events for people who want to xcountry ski. We have also participated in Utah Winter Games clinics – they are free or low cost clinics to learn a new winter sport. My favorite was ski skating.
Last of all, if you buy a lift pass from a ski shop instead of the resort you can often save quite a bit. I just learned this even though I’ve lived in Utah & skied here for years. Usually the resort has a list of who sells passes, or just call the shop. My sister says that August is the best time to buy gear. I got some skis for my birthday so I’m ready to go! Anyone want to take the kids? Let’s carpool. There’s got to be something to look forward to at this stage of Winter.
