Summer Camps in Utah

by Janet Thaeler on March 28, 2010

I just registered Bjorn for summer camp – his first ever. He’s going to Camp Rogers.

Here are some summer camps around the state:

Camp Rogers

This is a summer camp that is overnight and is run by the YMCA. There’s archery and other outdoor activities. See www.YMCACampRoger.org Right now you get $25 off for early bird registration (not sure for how much longer). Also, if you recruit a new camper for the 2010 season, just have them put your name on the registration form and you get $20 off your registration fee.  The more friends you bring to camp the more you save! Please put Janet Thaeler as the person who referred you. We put down $50 deposit and the remaining about $400 is due at least 3 weeks before the camp. They have different pricing depending on your financial situation, you can choose which one you can afford. If you request the free version, they ask for financial information to determine need.

There are different specialty camps like leadership and horse riding for older kids and teens.

Computer Camps

This is either day or overnight camps at the University of Utah and focuses on computers. “We offer a variety of cutting edge summer camp courses for kids and teens including video game design, Flash animation, programming, video editing, and more–using the best brand name products from Adobe®, Apple®, Autodesk®, Microsoft® and beyond.”  It’s for kids and teens.

Wheeler Farm Camp

My husband has fond memories of attending this camp as a child — especially herding the cows. In modern life you don’t often get enough chances to teach children how to work. While this camp is fun, it also teaches about life on the farm and kids get to participate in milking cows, gathering eggs, etc.

This is a day camp and you can go half or full day starting in June at the farm in Salt Lake City. You provide the transportation and lunch/snacks. For more details see: http://www.wheelerfarm.com/wfPDF/2010_camp_flyer.pdf

Are you sending your kids to camp this summer? Know of any you recommend? Please leave a comment.
