In this series I’m going to interview neighbors and businesses so you can get to know one another. Hopefully this will help build friendship and build community in the Fruit Heights area.

Rebecca Bateman

I wanted to interview Rebecca at the close of the Utah legislative session this year where she was a Page. She and I share a love of politics and all of the goings on, personalities and the decisions that are made. The most interesting is that Rebecca doesn’t claim a political party. She notes that Republicans and Democrats generally get along with and have respect for one another – despite what the media reports. However, as much now as ever, the Republicans usually win.

While in college, Rebecca worked with Enid Greene in Washington DC as well as members of the legislature in Utah. She recently decided to get involved again. This year was intense – with the bailout money (should we accept it?), the state budget (where can we cut, and cut) and the perennial water rights fights. The biggest story was when hundreds of fishermen showed up at the Capital building wearing their fishing gear to try to keep water rights public. They had quite an impact!

If you want to keep up with Rebecca, you might find her in the following places:

in the garden (with French flair)

at the legislature

dining at a fine restaurant

working on a new project (any number of artistic pursuits)

on Facebook

She’s from Salt Lake City and is married with two young children and two young dogs. Not only does she love to cook, she loves going out to eat. I asked her about her favorite restaurants.

Rebecca’s Favorite Restaurants

Chez Betty in Park City

Metropolitan (see the Dine O Round deals in May at the Metropolitian and other Utah restaurants)

Cafe Molise

Sego Lily Cafe in Bountiful

Takashi – sushi, downtown

Take home: Stop by and get a tour of her garden. If you’re lucky you could ask her if she’ll host a cooking class.

Thanks Rebecca for sharing a little more about yourself.
