I went to the Kaysville parade for the 2nd time this year with our family. I loved it the last time I went. This time though I was disappointed. I know that city budgets are tight and here’s what I think happened.

We have a new mayor and rather than limit the number of entries, they took just about anyone who applied. It just means more entrance fees. Also, the number of floats was just about none – probably because of the expense of making one. However there were semi trucks (that wasn’t safe or appealing!), school buses and hardly anything besides commercial type of participants.

Since there were so many low quality participants this year the parade seemed to last forever. It was over an hour long. We love the candy – my nieces from out of town were ecstatic. Me – I missed the Provo Freedom Festival parade with it’s big balloons, horses, beauty queens and commentary. I know this is a small town parade. I just think it lost a lot of that small town feel.

What do you think?

I used to go to house concerts – they are so much fun! Thanks to the Bishop’s for hosting this event and for organizing Fruit Heights house concerts.

This series will start at our home, but could be hosted by anyone in the city who wants to share their home for some good entertainment. Some of the people that we can get hooked up with could play the clubs in SLC, but would rather do it this way, as they travel in from the west coast. These are all professional artists.

Well, it’s officially on. We are going to begin a Fruit Heights area House Concert Series. We want to bring talented artists to us for intimate evenings of entertainment throughout the winter, and move it out to the field across the street during the summer where families can be invited. We will have the first concert at our home on October 10th. Due to space available, we request that this show be Adults Only.

We would like as much support as possible, so we can continue to draw talented artists like Greg and Shane to our events. We have been to the Summer Series up at Jeremy Ranch this year, and the talent is unbelievable. We have the contacts to bring some nationally recognized talent in and make this a fantastic series.

We also need some help getting the word out. Tell your friends and neighbors. We are e-mailing to the addresses that we have, so please help us by letting anyone you know, who might be interested, about the HC. We should have plenty of room, and the $10 donation to the performers is an inexpensive, yet makes for a classy date.

We ask for your support, and while drop-ins are welcome, we need some RSVP’s sent in. Let’s see if we can’t make this a HUGE success and get this House Concert Series rolling.

Regards,
